  • Not working for me, It sounds like my disk doesn’t even manage to spin in the tray once closed. When first closing I can hear the tray almost attempt to spin the disc twice before going quiet. Settings for the DVD/CD-Rom device says the device is working properly when it’s not… any suggestions? Thanks

  • Thanks! Method 1 did the trick. This has been giving me sooooo many headaches over the years, with my computer just completely locking up and requiring a hard reboot any time I tried to use a DVD.

  • Method 1 worked great for me, I had to type cmd in search, right clicked on the Open button and then hit Run as administrator pasted the content given it said successful, I restarted my laptop and it worked. I thank you for this video, it is very helpful. This appears to be an advanced step for fix. Don’t feel bad if you cannot figure this out, Windows 10 is a disappointment.

  • Here's a PSA, my I tried all of the above and nothing worked. It seems like the issue is something to do with the computer or device not gracefully handling a USB 2.0 v USB 3.0 incompatability ( which I know shouldn't happen, but hey that's technology for you ). I tried all of my physical USB ports and one of them eventually handled the device gracefully. I've heard of someone dissabling USB 3.0 support at the BIOS level to get around this, but then of course you won't have USB 3.0.

    TLDR;
    Try each physical USB port with your device.
    Try disabling USB 3.0 at the BIOS level
    If all else fails, try the tried and true mass sacrifice to one or more eldritch deities of your choice
